In 1850 when Mr. Ulens married his cousin Marie Ulens. In 1881 he gave order to build a small castle named Rochendaal. The story continues in 1940 when around Brunstem by the Belgian army a grass airfield becomes as a alternate airbase. After the Germans in May 1940 the airport had conquered was it quickly developed into a standard "Fliegerhorst" of the Luftwaffe with three runways in concrete. The Germans can not enjoy their Fliegerdorf for long. The Belgium airforce used the domain to accommodate airman, candidate airman and staff. The castle Rochedaal and Fliegerdorf were in 1996 abandoned by the Belgian Air Force. the castle is slowly taken over by nature.Its a shame that it is the victim of vandals.
